mix: unbreakable

(merci)

"To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly be broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart to no one. Wrap it carefully with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements; lock it up safe in a casket of your own selfishness. There it will not be broken. It will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable." - C.S. Lewis

This mix is not about the fragility of love, or of opening your heart to someone else until the scar closes over in reflex. That plays a big part, but it will not be song after song about how wonderful or how tragic love can be. It is partly about healing, and it is partly about falling and knowing and being. It is about the before and the after, and the in-between. It is both about the journey and the start and finish.

I have stories about each of these songs. They weave in and out of my life story; some of them I found a week or two ago, and some of them I know every word by heart. They are a theme in themselves, all the parts of a story that I cannot pick certain lyrics out for. This is how I lived this summer and how I've lived since then.

None of these songs are "filler," as you've probably figured out. I picked up a lot of these songs from mixes my friends made, so you might recognise a lot of them. I turn to music as a coping mechanism sometimes, so thank you to those who gave me these songs or told me they liked them, because they've packaged themselves into a mix I can't stop listening to nowadays.

I'd vouch for every single one of these songs. Hope you enjoy.

Ghosts is such a powerful song; I absolutely adore it. =]

Definitely meming to snag this later. Paris is Burning already has my interest peaked REALLY high. Thanks for the upload, and I hope this music helps me out as much as it has you.

And you're not alone in the music as a coping mechanism thing; I'm pretty sure everyone does at one point or another. =]

There has to be some spell woven into it, because once I turn it on I can't turn it off, hee.

All right. :) That song is fabulous, and it's another one I can't turn off.

Thank you, that means a lot. :)

I know! Now I want to listen to it on repeat for a while. =/

I just love the title! ... I may have to use that for some piece of writing, actually. Maybe the song will inspire me! (That'd be fantastic-- my will to write is DYING QUICKLY.)

I used music to cope A LOT a couple years ago. It's always been an escape for me, and there are so many songs out there that hit me on such personal levels that I just want to steal every copy of it and horde it for myself. =]
the sun’s been quite kind.cherise on November 17th, 2008 09:22 pm (UTC)
haha, go right ahead!

oh, it's fabulous music to write to! That's one of the reasons why I like it so much; let it inspire you. :)

It's the easiest, really, to just turn on music and let your brain quit thinking. I can definitely pinpoint songs at times of my life where they were theme songs. :D

oh! Why aren't we friends yet? This isn't the first conversation we've had, and you seem really great. *adds you*

I'm always looking for more music to write to. The Decemberists have been my NaNo muse for the past few weeks, which makes them even more amazing than I originally thought they were.

I can do the same. I usually hide in music and books. TV shows now, too, because I can download them on my computer and devour on a whole series.

Good question! And thanks. =] you seem really great, too. *adds back*

I saw that you're friends with Elyssa! She makes great writing mixes; her last one is wonderful. :) The Decemberists are fabulous. It's taken me a bit to warm up to them, but I love putting them on repeat.

I agree! I've gotten into a ridiculous amount of TV because of download communities, hee. I'm trying to get through How I Met Your Mother S2 but school keeps getting in the way, haha.

I saw your comment! *runs over*

I didn't like them when I was first introduced to them. It took a few years, but when I found them again and got their CDs on an MP3 CD from a friend, I didn't listen to anything else (except at work, not by choice) for two weeks straight. Kid you not.

I don't think I downloaded it. I'll have to go hunt it down now. =]

OHMYGOD, HIMYM. That show is made of serious win. Work gets in the way with me and just about everything. Every time I want to write, I'm at work. I get home and, generally, I'm like, "Eh-- I'll do it later. MUST WATCH BUFFY." At least lately. =]

IT'S TOTALLY CRAZY. I'd ask what part you live in, but that's kinda silly over LJ.

I need to make a post for my friends to share their messengers and whatnot with me.

That's so awesome! I only have The Crane Wife, and I don't know which album to get into next. Any suggestions?

It's this mix, for reference. Try it out. :)

hahahahaa. It's so good that it's in 30-minute segments, otherwise I could never justify watching it. lmao! oh Buffy. I was going to get into that show this summer ... fail. aww.

I don't really mind. *shrugs* I live in Lakewood, just left of Denver.

and yep, I left my stuff at your post. :)

ALL OF THEM. I have all the albums (not including live albums, b-sides and their newest singles collection) uploaded over at shadowandsoul. You'll have to join to see the posts, though. Definitely go with Castaways and Cutouts if you don't get any of the others-- that album is MADE OF WIN. AND AWESOMESAUCE. =]

I totally downloaded that one last night! =]

It definitely fits the 30-minutes really well. =]

OHMYGOD. Are you kidding me? I live in Wheat Ridge and am almost constantly in Lakewood! INSANE. This is getting scary. =/

I noticed! =D

haha, all right! I just commented cos I'm downloading Castaways and Cutouts. :D

Hooray! and yes, HIMYM fits my too-busy life. :)

oh wow, very close by! sort of, yes, since I really don't meet people even in Colorado.

:D

I just commented back!

I just downloaded the newest episode. =] Can't wait to watch it. Don't think I'll get to it tonight, though.

Very close! I've never met someone on here from Colorado, let alone Denver, before. All those on my flist that are from Colorado I know IRL.

I really want to get up to date by this year! I'll probably watch massive loads of it during Christmas break. :D

Yeah, exactly. Everyone's on the east coast, it seems.

Oh, it's the same here, too. Listening to your autumn mix puts me in the best of moods. ♥
